I told myself I was going to take advantage of this day and write – and write I did. Pumped up the manuscript to 5,065 words today, got through about maybe 3/4th of the chapter. If I can keep up this pace, I might actually have this thing done before winter. I have to admit, one of the harder things to write was the dialogue for the parents. I didn't want them to sound too perfect, but I wanted the reader to get the idea that they are good people trying to help their daughter out with a difficult decision. I tried to talk it out (the best way to do dialogue, as I've found out) and sound less like me and more like what I would hope my father would sound like if I confronted him with a similar problem. All I have to do now is get the main character to the station to sign off on paperwork and the chapter is over! One down and twelve to go – then on to my next project!
As for how I got this amazing word count (or at least amazing by my standards) of an additional 1,200-ish words goes back to what I said yesterday: I am not going to lose my mind over how many words I slap down over the course of the day. I am only going to shoot for writing a little bit every day, no matter how crappy I feel from work (and I know I am going to feel really crappy since I have overtime coming up this week). Same thing with going to the gym on a regular basis; as long as I go and I do something, then everything will work out in the end. As Sister Catherine liked to say "God helps those that help themselves". Let's see how this goes for now.
On to other topics.
As some of you might know, I've started to drink absinthe (especially after hard days at work), and I was wondering if anyone out there has any recommendations as to some good brands. I would like to find some brands that don't have any anise in it (which gives the drink its characteristic flavor). It's not that I don't like the flavor, but I want to see what else is out there. Put your recommendations on the comments section and I'll give them a shot. Also – today while I was puttering around, I got to see the movie Hedwig and the Angry Inch – an interesting movie to say the least. The singer was certainly talented and the story was novel. Certainly not one I would recommend to a church group, however.
Well, it's 12:30 am here, and I do have to get up for work. So, I bid you all a fond farewell and hope to see you all in the morning.
